J. Foster: Bringing “R&B with a Holy Slap” to ArtHouse Collective

The ArtHouse Collective is all about celebrating creativity, innovation, and connection, and this January, we’re thrilled to welcome J. Foster to our stage. A Chicago-born artist now based in LA, J. Foster brings a fresh and faith-filled take on R&B that’s sure to captivate the audience. Here’s a closer look at the man behind the music, his journey, and what to expect from his highly anticipated performance.

From Chicago to LA: J. Foster’s Musical Journey

“I’m a Christian R&B artist from Chicago currently based in LA,” J. Foster shares. “My journey as a performer has been really fun but also a learning experience. I’ve done many shows in Chicago and had the chance to grow my stage presence and confidence. Performing is always my favorite aspect of being an artist.”

For fans unfamiliar with his music, J. Foster describes it best: “R&B with a Holy slap to it. Imagine if Usher started making Christian music—that’s pretty much me.” This unique blend of soulful melodies and faith-driven lyrics sets him apart, offering a sound that’s both uplifting and undeniably catchy.

Inspirations and Themes

J. Foster’s music is deeply inspired by both his upbringing and his faith. “Growing up, my mom was always playing R&B in the house. I was naturally inspired by artists like Usher and Chris Brown when I first started making music. Once I transitioned to Christian music, I wanted to incorporate those influences to help shape my sound,” he explains.

His rebrand to faith-based music, which began just five months ago, reflects his spiritual journey. “My faith and walk as a Christian influence all my music. I hope to bring a different sound to Christian music.”

What to Expect at ArtHouse Collective

As an artist who thrives on live performance, J. Foster is ready to bring his signature energy to the ArtHouse stage. “The audience can expect great energy and good vibes. I’m going to make sure everyone has a good time and leaves with something to remember.”

His setlist features fan favorites, but there’s one song that holds a special place in his heart. “‘What I Need’ is my favorite song from the setlist because I believe it’s my best song to date,” he shares.

First LA Performance and What’s Next

J. Foster’s excitement about ArtHouse Collective is palpable. Not only will this event mark his first LA performance, but it’s also a chance to debut his newly released songs live. “I recently went through a rebrand, so this will be the first time I perform these new songs. I’m excited to connect with the LA audience.”

Looking ahead, J. Foster is gearing up for a strong start to the new year. “I’m working on new music and plan to release a new single in January. People can find my music on all streaming platforms and visit my website at itsjfoster.com.”

Behind the Scenes: J. Foster’s Creative Process

Creating music is both a spiritual and artistic process for J. Foster. “Sometimes I pray before I start, asking God for inspiration. I usually let the beat play for a few minutes to get a feel for the sound. Then I’ll come up with the melody first and then the lyrics.”

Balancing faith with staying relevant to today’s audience is a priority for him. “Although I make Christian R&B, I still like to take certain inspirations from secular R&B and incorporate it into my sound. But I always remember that God is the center focus of my music.”

Fun Facts and Dreams

When asked which artist he’d love to perform alongside, J. Foster doesn’t hesitate: “Usher. He’s been my favorite artist since I was a kid and a huge influence on my sound.”

And for a fun fact? “Most people don’t know that I’m a huge Degrassi fan. Growing up, it was one of my favorite shows, and I still go back and watch certain seasons from time to time.”
